The Land of Lightning is located on a peninsula north-east of the Land of Fire and is one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries. Its government leader is the Lightning Daimyō. In the center of the country are vast mountain ranges, whose many thunderstorms are said to give the country its name. From these mountain ranges, many rivers flow to the sea, creating a very crooked coastline that displays an impressive oceanic beauty.

The Land of earth is one of the more rugged countries in term of land, only coming second to Kaze no Kuni's desert. Its government leader is the Earth Daimyō. The country is mostly comprised of desolate, rocky areas. The border of the Land of Earth runs along a rocky mountain range, blocking communication with other countries. The wind blowing from the north passes over these mountains, carrying small rocks from the Land of Earth to the surrounding countries.

The Land of Wind is one of the more prominent countries in the world. Its government leader is the Wind Daimyō. The country covers a vast realm, but that realm is significantly composed of deserts, however, this does not affect their productivity. Because there is very little rainfall throughout the year, the people of the country live in villages built on one of the desert's many oases. Additionally, even with the country's extremely harsh environment, has a large population.

Land of Sound is a relatively new country in the political scene, though it has existed for some time under the name of the Rice field country. After gaining a new Daimyo during the creation of it’s Hidden Village, Ta no Kuni changed its name and neutral political standpoint to one of increasing it’s own influence by any means necessary. Which includes war games or annexation and granting citizenship to criminals, vagabonds and refugees

The Water Basin country is a minor nation that boarders four other nations. Despite this, It's Daimyo and Shinobi village has kept the nation relatively safe. It should be noted that Ryuki no Kuni is one of the few nations that has never been successfully invaded, even during the clan wars. While many have tried, none have gotten further than a few miles from the boarder. Whether this is because of the country's infamous battle medics or their astounding hunter skills that rival Kirigakure, has yet to be determine.

Sogen no Kuni or the Grassland country is a minor nation that shares borders with Hi no kuni, Tsuchi no kuni and two other minor nations. Keeping to it's namesake, Sogen no kuni is a nation of lush and ever expanding grasslands. It's landscape is highly diverse when it comes to flora. The nation is rumored to have a more unique plant base lifeforms than that of Hi no kuni. However, the fire country has shot down the rumors on multiple occasions. The country’s inhabitants pride themselves on being naturist. From their love of summon animals to familiars, right down to a particular poisonous mushroom; Sogen kunians are the epitome of Tree hugger[without the trees]
