The First Age [The founding of Chakra]
In a time long ago than anyone cares to remember back when the earth was new and humans were little more than wild animals, there was an event that happened that would change the world. Fair warning if you are looking for some wise old sage of six or a rabbit princess who ate a forbidden fruit this is not the site for you as neither of those things ever existed here not even as a rumor (though feel free to try to start it yourself if you desire). No, this event was more widespread and involved society as a whole, not one individual rising above the rest and distributing power as they saw fit. The event in question was socialism.Humans began to band together for one reason or another. Banding together leads to communication on a wide scale which leads to language and the discovery of individual thought. Individual thought when combined can create something very special and that something special is called innovation. However, with innovation comes wide-scale conflict; this isn't to say that the world was peaceful before socialism and innovation but kill to progress in society or for lofty ideas and ambitions was certainly new.
Those of like mind banded together and fought those whom they disagreed with over various unimportant things that seemed important enough to die over at the time (sounds familiar right?). In time the fights became more complex and intricate with people using innovation and the community of individual thought to create fighting styles that increased their fighting ability. Pretty soon fighting became its own school of thought.
With this came the many clans of ninja who banded together through ideas and familial ties to become a sect of elite covert warriors for hire. With this, more and more fighting became normalized and advances in fighting grew. Soon people began unlocking superhuman abilities through meditation and effort (not to mention a shit ton of training) the energy fueling these superhuman acts was given a name; chakra. The acts behind the chakra or Jutsu as they were to be known became commonplace after awhile with several clans developing traits that only they themselves could do which were referred to as Kekkei Genkai which were passed on through the shinobi bloodline.
The Second Age [Coming of the Bijuu]
Hundreds of years of waging wars for others ideals and the surrounding environment became littered with residual chakra from the battles. Eventually, at a point that was still too long ago to even calculate, this chakra infected nine perfectly normal animals and transformed them into natural disasters. These nine animals were named Bijuu or Tailed beastOver the centuries, humanity failed to recognize the tailed beasts as sapient individuals, instead of seeing them only as monsters, demons, or mindless beasts worthy of fear and disdain. Because of their immense power, the tailed beasts were sought out by humans to be used as weapons in times of war. The beasts resented this treatment and came to hate humans, at times willingly becoming the monsters they were viewed as.
In order to combat this several shinobi came up with ways to seals these "beast" away into various objects to "get rid" of them as killing them only made them resurface later much angrier. It was not long after learning that the sealing method worked on the tailed beast before shinobi began sealing the Bijuu within themselves in order to utilize their extreme chakra levels and unique powers.
Third Age [The Human Arms Race]
Upon discovering that Bijuu could be sealed within humans and their power exploited that there was a literal human arms race to create living weapons dubbed Jinchuriki. The process seemed to work best with children so most people started using children in order to create these weapons, however, using a child had its own drawbacks.Kids began being kidnapped and the Bijuu extracted (which straight killed the kid, told you a whole lotta gang shit), and replaced in another stronger shinobi in order to craft a stronger weapon. This went on for many centuries with much bloodshed. It was during this time that certain Jinchuriki informed the shinobi world that the Bijuu are sentient beings (not that they cared) and had names (which was convenient cause calling them by the number of tails they had was just tacky). Although this slowed down the bloodshed, more so because those Jinchuriki had been Jinchuriki long enough to be formidable opponents and not at all easy to kill. Soon the mad dash for Bijuu and Jinchuriki slowed down and coincidentally every known country with a ninja influence (besides one) ended up with one Bijuu residing in their country one way or another.
Fourth Age [300 years ago]
300 years ago things begin to settle down within the countries at least with hunting down Bijuu and Jinchuriki and shinobi settled back into their old ways of doing random missions for the Daimyo to earn a living. While clans have established themselves greatly in this time as their unique talents brought them much attention and demand in the world, though there was always room for a talented shinobi even without a clan.Fifth Age [Shinobi Village System 75 years ago]
Nations across the land were witnessing extreme mortality rates in children. As such the world, though bleak moved in a direction to fix this problem. Plagued by death and destruction the Daimyo of the world, would agree to a cease-fire in order to extend the lives of their citizens. Thus after several years of on and off bickering, the Hidden Village System was adopted. The first Shinobi village to rise would be named the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Founded within Hi no Kuni, the clans who were once enemies would come together as allies and changed the entire Shinobi world. Within five years of Konohagakure’s founding. Word would spread of several nations founding their own Shinobi villages.
Tsuchi no Kuni would be the second nation to found their own village. The earth clans would rebel against their Daimyo who, unlike Hi no Kuni's Daimyo disagreed with the formation of a Shinobi Village. Feeling that the rise of the Hidden Villages would give the clans to much power. The climatic end of the Rebellion would be the rise of The Hidden Rock Village.
The Third Shinobi Village to come into existence would be The Hidden Cloud Village. The mountainous cut off from the flatlands of Tsuchi no Kuni and the Forest of Hi no Kuni would become home to its own Shinobi Village after the Daimyo decided that it was in the countries best interest to bolster its military might by funding a Hidden Village.
With the continuous success of the Hidden Villages and the political power that came with their founding. The Village Hidden the Sand would soon come until being. The clans of Kaze no Kuni were harder to sway than the other nations, due to the country being sparsely populated and the clans nomadic. However, the desert-dwelling clans and citizen benefited greatly from the founding and would soon prosper.
The founding of Mizu no Kuni's hidden village would come under the hostile situation. Mizu no Kuni, being the only nation without a Hidden Village would find itself the target of Hi no Kuni and Kaze no Kuni. While no battle worth naming hag occurred, the tension between the nations had caused the Daimyo to call its clans to join arms and create the Hidden Mist Village.
For several years the Shinobi villages lived in relative peace. With the founding of several villages across the lands, it was financially impossible for the nation's to end the cease-fire. This brought on an era of peace that allowed the once thinning populations to blossom. During this time, the Shinobi organizational System was put into place. This assured that Shinobi would receive valuable training before being thrown into the harsh world. This era wasn’t without its downfalls, however, With the Shinobi Organizational System, came shinobi mission. The missions were tasks given to Shinobi to fund the village. As with any era, these missions would bring rise to conflict and disinterest between the newly formed Shinobi villages.
Sixth Age [First Great Shinobi War 65 years ago]
The First Shinobi world war took the world by storm. Having greatly benefited from the village system and Shinobi organization system, the leaders of the newly formed villages; coined Kage, bolstered their military might and laid claims to lands not previously owned. The Daimyo, of course, sided with there military power, the Shinobi Villages and thus causing the Great Shinobi World War. The Great War would soon come to a bloody climax, all sides had taken heavy damage with even village founders or Shodaime Kages losing their lives. There are few reliable surviving records of this war, but the experiences of this war led to the birth of the tactics that still form the cornerstone of warfare. It ended with an armistice treaty.
As the Suna-Kiri war raged on, the other Shinobi nations would bolster their strength from within. The Great War had taken many lives and caused a good amount of damage, political and infrastructural. This, however, didn't stop Suna and Kiri from having their little scuffle. Despite the small scale war, every nation would grow in power during this time.
Several Years after the start of the Suna-Kiri debacle, Kumo would invade Oni no Kuni, a minor nation that was only recently established. At the time Oni did have its own Shinobi, however, they lacked a Shinobi Village and the benefits that came with it. As such, Oni was at the mercy of major country Kaminari no Kuni and its hidden village, Kumogakure. Hi no Kuni's Shinobi village, Konohagakure saw this act as a blatant show of unnecessary might, against a budding political power that could hardly defend themselves. With the permission of the Daimyo, Konoha and Kumo would engage in combat.
During the tail end of the Kiri-Suna conflict, Tsuchi no Kuni's Shinobi village, Iwagakure would sanction assassination’s on the leaders of the fighting nations. A couple of these were successful while others were not. Among the casualties were, Kaze no Kuni's Daimyo, Konohagakure’s Hokage, Kumogakure's Daimyo and Kirigakure's Mizukage. This act would shock the world and thrust every nation into chaos. The actions of Iwagakure would single-handedly start the 2nd Shinobi World War.
Seventh Age [Second Great Shinobi War 40 years ago]
The second Shinobi World War was dubbed the Bloodiest Battle on Earth. It was during this war that the shinobi villages used their newly acquired power known as the Jinchuriki; Shinobi with living constructs of chakra sealed within their bodies. This took fighting to an entirely new level, not only did the Jinchuriki play a devastating role in the war but the fall out from their chakra irradiated(with Bijuu chakra) the lands, making some inhospitable. There were a few notable events during this war besides the introduction of the Jinchuriki. The occupation of Iwagakure by Kumogakure, the destruction of Hi no Kuni's Forest at the hands of Kaze no Kuni, the defeat of Konohagakure by Sunagakure and the unprecedented alliances of Konoha-Kiri and Iwa-Suna alliance. The second Shinobi World War ended thanks to the Daimyo of each nation. As the war raged on, it destroyed not only the lands itself but also the lives of civilians. In an attempt to quell the fighting. The Daimyo forced their Shinobi village leaders to meet, using the threat of taking away funding to get them all together. This meeting would become known as the Kage Summit. During the meeting, each nation would come to an agreement and cease all war activities. Kumogakure would return Iwagakure to its rightful owners, with the Tsuchikage at the time executed for their sanctioned assassinations. Sunagakure would give Konohagakure the small number of fertile lands they owned turning Kaze no Kuni into a desert country. While Kirigakure would gain control of the disputed islands the village fought Suna over.
Seventh Age [Third Great Shinobi War 23 years ago]
The survivors of the 2nd Great War were left to rebuild a damaged world. As time went on, the nations healed and birth rates would spike drastically. This lead to an unprecedented amount of Shinobi being born. As such the time after the 2nd Shinobi World War was dubbed the Baby Boomer Era. The rise in Shinobi population, in turn, caused mission rates to increase, allowing all nations to benefit greatly. Given the war experience of those who birth these new shinobi and the growth the villages experienced during this particular era of peace; Several notable Shinobi and Kunoichi were active or born during this time. Some became missing-nin, criminals to their nations, while others became Kages, the pillar of strength to their nation. There were even Shinobi of great skill who rivaled the likes of their village leader but chose to follow instead of lead. After the Second Shinobi World War, the minor nations began a plot that would not only bring about the Third Shinobi World War but also catapult the lesser nations onto the international scene. After a decade of peace and rebuilding, the Minor nations across the globe would found their own Hidden Villages.
Because of a decline in national power and rumors of minor Shinobi villages; the reign of the Five Great Shinobi Countries was crumbling. Along their borders, skirmishes with smaller nations broke out all the time. The conflict turned into an unprecedented war of attrition, tormenting all nations with a shortage of war potential. Not even excluding a great power like Kumo or Iwa. Very young children, some of whom were barely out of the Academy were thrown onto the battlefield, eventually losing their young lives during the war.
End of the Third Shinobi World War; The war that swallowed up shinobi from every land came to an end after an armistice agreement between the Major Shinobi Villages and the Minors, however, its believed that the minor nations were victorious, as they were inducted into the World stage with official Hidden Village.
Ninth Age [Current Era]
Over a decade of peace has endured since the Third Shinobi World War. Each of the nations would benefit greatly from the less chaotic political scene, however, skirmishes and inter-village missions were still common. Each country and each shinobi village had its own impact on the world. Konohagakure leads the world in missions, having the most diverse Shinobi population of all the nations. Kumogakure held the title for highest military might and War-ready capability. With their citizens being supporters of a more militarized Kaminari no Kuni. Sunagakure made use of their many gold mines and harsh environment. Their shinobi was said to be as unforgiving as the desert itself. Iwagakure in this era stayed relatively secluded from the rest of the world. Building their village and growing their shinobi around the idea of absolute defense, the nation prided themselves on their impregnable nation. Many of the world’s Ore originates from Tsuchi no Kuni, making Iwa one if the riches villages, second to Kirigalure, with Suna following in third. Despite being the last village to form Kirigakure was able to stand with the other nations by uniquely creating its own Shinobi Navy. This allowed the Village to become one of the top traders throughout the world. With its navy, it was able to access and trade with multiple nations within the mainland.
In the current era, as the villages and their shinobi’s renown expanded, so too did the likes of their bravado. Although the world hasn’t yet seen war, missions are steadily more and more brutal. Tensions between the nation's because of these missions are also growing with older more experienced ninja liking it to the time right before the First ever Shinobi World War. On top of this, rumors of minor nations founding their own Shinobi are abounding. While the five major nations haven’t confirmed these rumors, during the second war there were reports of Shinobi seen fighting that was not apart of any of the major nations, although troubling none of the major nations seem too worried about this news. As of right now, things are fairly normal, how long this will last? Well, no one really knows….
