Familiar Rules
Man's Best Friend
General Info
In the ninja world, there are many tools and weapons that can be used to a Shinobi's advantage. While most take the form of some sort of technique or jutsu or even some form of equipment like a weapon or armor there are also those shinobi who deign to use animals to get the job done. These animals can be either summons or familiars. This thread is to inform our members of the later.
There are two types of familiars and to make it easier to talk about the two of them we will call one the wild type and the other the domesticated type. The difference between domesticated and wild types are pretty much what their names imply. Where the wild types are just regular animals that the user has trained to fight with during their lifespan. This has benefits and drawbacks of its own but we will get into that later.
The domesticated type is familiars that have been trained in the ninja way for many generations and they usually belong to a ninja family or clan that has mastered the art of breeding and training them. Like wild types, these familiars have advantages and disadvantages that we will be getting into a bit later.
Wild Familiars
An animal companion that follows a ninja around. Most commonly viewed as an animal friend in some cases these friends have minimal combat abilities. Wild Familiars are limited to the physiology of the animal. IE Bears have claws that can scar stone, not cut through it. They can be taught to use weapons like swords and kunai, though the process does take longer than it would with Domesticated Familiars. As far as Chakra and jutsu go, Wild Familiars are not combatants equal to their human. (IE: A B ranked Shinobi can only have a D-ranked familiar to start with). They can't use ninjutsu, genjutsu or Taijutsu. However, if taught to use weapons, they can only use "free formed" attacks and are not allowed to use actual Bukijutsu techniques.
Domesticated Familiars
Domesticated Familiars are different than Wild Familiars as they have been trained in the shinobi arts either by a clan or by a shinobi master. As such they are able to utilize limited Taijutsu and Bukijutsu techniques or combination Ninjutsu techniques via their master. That being said, the animals are limited to their physiology, as such a bird has no fist, so it wouldn't be able to punch. So "punching" type of Taijutsu techniques couldn't be used by this animal. Secondly, Domesticated Familiars cannot use Ninjutsu or chakra related techniques without using their shinobi master as a medium. An example of this is the Inuzuka's beast man clone or four legs technique. Ninja animals are also not equal to their humans either. Though they are a lot closer.(IE A B-Ranked Shinobi can have a C-ranked familiar).
